I wanted to throw an event with meaning; I wanted to do something very classy, with taste, mixed with friends, laughter, positive energy and a reason for people to come out, dress up and celebrate life with live entertainment. ‘Over Black’, A Holiday Toy Drive Mixer will be a black tie affair, with live entertainment by Lite Styles, and hosted at The Nightingale Room in downtown Houston. The event will be on December 23rd from 6pm – 9pm at 308 Main St, Houston, TX 77002 (832) 968-3370.
The Black Tie:
When I think about the meaning behind black tie, I imagine the Rat Pack and women wearing classy long dresses that draw inspiration from women in the 1920s – 1960s. The attire for a black tie event, will preferably be a tuxedo or something creative but in the same family as black tie (i.e biker jacket with tuxedo pants and bow tie, black suit with black turtle neck, tuxedo shirt with bow tie or tie, midnight blue suit with black tie, white tuxedo jacket or a well tailored suit.
When I first visited The Nightingale Room, I was taken away on how cool the atmosphere was. It had a different vibe and feel from other bars I visited in Houston. With 6 seating sections in the walk way (3 on the left and 3 on the right), a big open space, mirrors on the ceilings, vinyls and different assortments of top shelf liquors in the bar section, a stair well heading to the second floor where the stage is located, that over looks the open space on the first level and a very cool wall drawing. The music selection from The Nightingale Room was very good, they play music from Mos Def (one of my favorite rappers) to Stevie Wonder and everything else. It has been a favorite bar of mine since it opened in 2014. With the bar attracting positive feedback, it’s truly an honor to have an opportunity to have my Holiday Mixer at this establishment.
I always wanted to do a charity event and thought with Christmas around the corner. I wanted to be able to give back to the community by collecting toys for Star of Hope Mission. With collecting toy’s, we are able to give back to the families that are less fortunate. I want to start volunteering and organizing charity work for the community and thought this would be a great start.
