2nd Annual Black Tie Toy Drive
Last year’s toy drive was unbelievable, I was able to donate toys to 4 non-profits (3 in Texas and 1 in Central America). This year’s toy drive was a huge blessing, I had the opportunity to adopt 8 families for Christmas from Irvinton Village, a low-income housing facility.
I had an idea to put together a black tie event, where guest can come together for a great cause, get dressed up, listen to great music, be around like minded individuals with live entertainment. With help from Aloft Houston Downtown, I was able to accomplish and surpass my goal.
Upon arrival, guest entered on the first floor and was greeted by curated sounds from DJ Anarchy and then taken to the second floor to drop off their donations. Donations came big and small, from a doll house to baseball caps and gift cards. On the first floor of Aloft Houston Downtown, was the W XYZ bar, a pool table, and a henna artist. Ayesha Aziz provided beautiful henna tattoos for guest to go along with the evening. I’m very big on details and thought this would be a great and elegant touch of detail.
Another great detail was having media coverage by Urban Houston Network, TV personality and Host Ja’Leah Davis of Media Eyecon Live covered the event. Ja’Leah was able to interview guest, on charity work, entrepreneurship, networking and giving back. Everyone has a passion outside of their 9-5 and I wanted the guest to be able to showcase their talents and create brand exposure for themselves.
Guest started touring Aloft Houston Downtown to view rooms and design layout of the 7th floor. Rooms to show were a king and queen double, where the rooms made you feel like home. I personally liked the exposed ceilings and how creative the rooms were. After touring the 7th floor, the guest was taken to the 11th-floor rooftop. The rooftop has a beautiful scenery of Houstons downtown landscape, which I wanted to show off for guest. With Houston receiving a cold front night of the event, not all guest were able to make it to the 11th floor, they choose to stay warm.
Closing the event was Green House singer/songwriter Erva Carter who performed 4 songs. Erva captured guest with her strong and sultry voice alongside her guitarist Deric Anderson.
Thank You to everyone who donated toys and time to attend my 2nd Annual Black Tie Toy Drive.
