Christmas isn’t a time for only receiving gifts but for also giving back. One of my favorite quotes by Denzel Washington says ” At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished…. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” And I completely agree, lately, Christmas has been more about “what am I getting” and has gone away from “how can I help” or “how can I give back.”
Irvinton Village and FromNewYorktoTexas partnered together for the 2nd Annual Christmas Toy Delivery event. The event was held for the 8 families we were able to adopt from Irvinton Village with children ranging from ages 5-12 years-old.
After collecting all the toys brought by guest at the 2nd Annual Black Tie Toy Drive event at Aloft Houston. The next step was sorting all the toys out, pairing the gifts with families and then wrapping the gifts. One of my goals for this toy drive was abundance and that goal was surpassed by the guest who attended the event. Volunteers and I wanted to make gift giving as fair as possible and not leave a kid out. So each kid received 4 gifts to make things even throughout the 8 families including mothers.
The Christmas Toy Delivery at Irvinton Village started with arts and crafts. The kids drew and colored awesome Christmas themed worksheets, Author Sophia Anderson read Christmas books and then kids got the opportunity to receive their gifts. It was a true blessing to put smiles on the kid’s faces. Not everyone is fortunate enough to give gifts or receive gifts on special days and I’m truly grateful and thankful we are able to do both.
