HBO x Trap Karaoke premier “BALLERS” and “INSECURE” at White Oak Music Hall
Honestly, how are your karaoke skills? Would you get on stage and sing your favorite Pharrell, Jay-Z or Migos song? If you were to ask me, I’d say, I’m more of a shower singer myself. HBO (Home Box Office) partnered with Trap Karaoke by way of New York, to premiere a double feature of BALLERS and INSECURE. When it comes to tv; I watch a few things, motivational videos, basketball, Sportscenter (on repeat), a few shows and movies. I have seen a few commercials for both BALLERS and INSECURE, but never really invested time to watch both shows.
With BALLERS being on its 3rd season and Insecure on it’s 2nd; HBO and Trap Karaoke put together a 3 city tour for guest to enjoy and preview its season premiere. The first stop on the tour was Bograts in Cincinnati, The Filmore in Charlotte, and White Oak Music Hall in Houston. The premiere started at 8 pm which VIP guest was asked to arrive at 6:30 for a private reception with complimentary drinks, an avocado station, a meet and greet with cast members and speed artist Ange Hillz created two speed paintings, that was donated to the Houston Children’s Charity by BALLERS and INSECURE cast members.
If you’re a fan of Entourage, then you’ll enjoy BALLERS. Based in Miami, FL; Dwayne Johnson plays Spencer Starsmore a former football superstar, who turns into a sports agent and tries finding similar success. I couldn’t believe the response that INSECURE had on the crowd. With my first time watching, I didn’t know what to expect. INSECURE follows the friendships of two black women starring Issa and Molly, played by Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji; who deal with their real life struggles, insecurities, and everyday situations. Both shows were incredible and put things in a different perspective. Being a BALLER can come with a good or bad price tag and being a strong woman in today’s society isn’t always the case.
The highlight of the night, beside the premiere, came by way of Trap Karaoke. Established in 2015 by Jason Mowatt, a former music organizer. Attendees for the evening had a chance to showcase their talents in rapping along to their favorite rap songs. I swear every performer from start to finish seemed like a professional when they hit the WOMH stage. With a special performance by Bun B, his wife Queeny, The Suffers lead singer Kam Franklin the night was complete. Trap Karaoke represents empowerment, unity, community, and memories shared by all who attend.
Make sure to check out season 3 of BALLERS at 10 pm and season 2 of INSECURE at 10:30 pm every Sunday.
