Should Loose/Baggy Jeans Come Back to Style in 2017?
Can we all say this together? BAGGY JEANS ARE BACK! Yes! They are back, but not in full effect. They still have some climbing to do. I’m not sure what year exactly when they left the face of the fashion world but I do remember at one point I wore a size 34 in Sean John jeans. I’m not ashamed to say it to you, the reader. It’s the truth, before style we followed that everyone else did in fashion because it was cool. Me wearing a size 34 jean was part of the culture, the Hip Hop culture. My favorite stars wore them, and that influenced me to wear them as well.
Now when I say, baggy jeans are back, they’re not your typical baggy jeans from the 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s. These new age baggy jeans are more tasteful, contemporary (in style), and formal in the fabric. If you recently saw any of the SS17 Todd Snyder, AMI Paris, J.Crew, and Haider Ackermann have all put out their own version of the baggy trouser. In my opinion, Brunello Cuccinelli has been ahead of the curve when making a high-end or luxury baggy trouser (click here for example). The thing about baggy jeans from the 80’s and 90’s in comparison to now is quality, style, and fit as weird as that sound. Using fabrics such as wool, and cashmere and adding suiting details such as pleats or adding a drop crotch gives the modern baggy pant another essence or feel.
Wearing a pair of loose fitting or baggy jeans still is going take some confidence and time. I’ve been thinking a lot about either changing my style and challenging myself fashion wise. With studying different designers, fashion shows, trends; I honestly really like the loose fitting trouser in a jogger, formal jogger, jean, or dress pant. Like I mentioned before, transitioning from a skinny jean to loose or baggy jeans will take some time, so don’t rush it especially if this trend isn’t for you.
